DEACONS 5 HORSHAM 1

Saturday 8th December 2007
A fine debut for Toby who ran all over the place for 25 minues and then discovered he'd overdone it.

This match had all the things you love about the British winter. Rain and cold, cold and rain...and 2 goals for Kev from a couple of yards out.

Team: Cap'n Kev, Smithy (umpiring and hobbling), Ian, Andy, Chris, Jammo, Roger, Bob, Houlty, Stuart, Norman, Clive, JC (watching), Adrian, Dave (watching), Toby Goals: Kev 2, Adrian, Clive, Houlty

if ever there was a day for silly hats, this was it - so where was Coxy?

Nice to see the talent scouts from the 1st XI haven't yet abandoned the Deacons as a source of talent

Could this be the promising youngster that Paul was casting a measured eye over?

Toby in action, albeit kicking the ball

LEWES 8 DEACONS 2

Saturday 1st December 2007
We were stuffed. Nothing to add - although it was an enjoyable game which Lewes thoroughly deserved to win.

Apologies to Lewes - a cock up on the travel front meant that we couldn't spend as much time in the bar with you as we would have liked.

Team: Cap'n Kev (cowering in the shelter), Smithy (umpiring and hobbling), Ian, Andy, Chris, Jammo, Roger, Toddy (hobbling), Bob, Houlty, Stuart, Clive, JC, Adrian, Norman(?.... not meaning to suggest you had a quiet game - I just can't remember that far back - it's age) Goals: Clive, Adrian.

One of a small number of high points

Clive was tightly marked

Todd to Riley..or is it Riley to Todd. A trusted combination that's been delighting the crowds for nearly a quarter of a century

Kev reminded us not to be negative but we can't have been listening
A familiar sight

A rare period of midfield dominance

Clive should be the best push backer in the business now, having restarted the game 9 times

Ooh me back! Or is it my leg?

and to finish on a high note.
